This game clearly has influence(gameplaywise) from another amazing old times shooter, G-Darius(ps1 release).
Good job in creating an engaging story + a great shooter in one shot.
MTG stands for MAGIC THE GATHERING, it's a trading card game(TCG) similar to this one, indeed it does seems like a MTG ripoff but good game nonetheless!

The apocalypse setting is pretty intense dudes.
I managed with the following strategy:
1 Bunker in top row
3 Ion Cannons in the Green Squares
Fully Upgrade 1 Ion Cannon
Advance Eco
2 Economic Structures
Missile Tech
4~6 Fully upgraded missile silos near 1 or 2 bunkers
4 more upgraded economic structures
Missile Defense tech
2 Fully upgraded Missile Defenders
More Missile Sios if things are getting out of hand
Planet Shields
+ Missile Silos(until out of room!)
Deveritate:
You must use subversion to beat that doctor, in my experience he would use his massive healing when 10.000 or so of his HP was depleted or in turn 9(something like that) then you use subversion and good game.
Ignition is possible if you use amber with a good physical piercing setup to keep pounding massive damage!
Fate(the 1 hit kill move) can be dispelled with heroic motivation. Electrobolt is also recomended to dispel that nasty hp regen xD
