Declaration of Independence
I am writing this document because we want freedom provided with recess. The only freedom we have is at lunch. People may say, “What about Electives?” I would tell them that we’re not allowed to socialize in AR. We’re strictly supposed to be reading, doing homework, or doing a project. What if we want to play a game? Nope, we can’t do that. Recess would allow us to play games or even sports.
I suggest we deserve to have recess because we have to work all day, we have to be quiet all day, and we have to get all our energy out somehow. It allows us to get Sun and fresh air we need. We also get to have exercise and fun at the same time! Plus if we don’t get all our energy out, we’ll be all jittery throughout our next classes. The majorities of us are on our best behaviors and want to learn, so don’t we deserve something?!
The right of pursuit of happiness is being extremely violated by this law of Imagine Avondale. Don’t you think some middle school students feel unequal because everyone other grade gets recess!? When we found out there was no more recess. Everyone was unhappy. Being able to hang out with all our friends would make us happy. Therefore, many middle school students are unhappy!
We have been able to have free time in some classes, when we’re finished with our lessons and class work. However, that free time only lasts 5 to 15 minutes. In AR, we’re sometimes allowed to talk, but at a whisper tone. We’ve had days were we can just talk for most of the period, and I recall in one class, we even watched a movie. Our problems have mildly been solved, but we haven’t reached the main goal.
Now that we’ll be receiving recess, I will enjoy my time playing sports and getting my exercise. I will enjoy the Sun and the fresh air, we deserve to finally have. My fellow classmates will be glad someone spoke up about not having recess, now it’s time to enjoy.
