While I had to retry 3 missions I manages to complete the entire game on hard with 3 stars in a couple of hours. This is a really good game but the weapons aren't balanced. I used missiles and machine guns and it became easy.

I noticed an interesting easy trick to beating the blacks. They are slightly different than the other AIs as they are not very defensive. If you send about 10 units to one of there planets, they will not try to take it back. The way this can be applied is by sending a few units to all the black planets with no protection and leave them there. It will stop the blacks producing units from that planet and they will pretty much never try to remove those units from their planet. It seems they will if you send too large a force. They will also try and take the planet back if they no longer own it. So it's best just to send a few so it takes ages to take.
