Spent over 20 minutes trying to log back into the game. Kept getting "Client is out of synch with server and must be restarted." Guess I'll play later. :/
I didn't find the controls as bad as some are saying. I learned quickly the character tends to jump a bit far so I was careful about where I stood each time I needed to leap from one platform to the next. I had more of a timing issue, sometimes you had a short window of opportunity and had to move fast but carefully.
I thought I wouldn't be able to beat this game, the 3rd level was giving me trouble, but I made it through. Great game, didn't know it was a Ludum Dare game until the end, which makes it that more awesome.
I have never read Neverending Story. If there is one book than can be considered an inspiration (in fact there are several, but this one most prominently) it's Replay by Ken Grimwood.
It says you can get the easy badge by completing any speed run or challenge. However I didn't get it when I did any of the challenges but after I did a speed run.
Sorry about beings negative but turn-based strategy games are time consuming. Every little annoyance and problem can make the game drag. I might be pointing out some things that are more a personal gripe but it's my opinion as a gamer who does try to enjoy these types of games.
I couldn't help but notice things that weren't included. You can't view any enemy info including their hp/movement. Which I don't like but understand it can make for a more challenging experience. You can't view your own guys stats after they move. This however, is annoying, as it hinders planning out your moves, especially when it comes to planning out your next turn. You also can't undo a move, so if you accidentally moved Alpius when you meant to move Celsius, too bad. It seems each guy can only hold one weapon but this isn't stated. On top of that you have to buy back any weapons you may have purchased if you're not holding it. I had to waste creds finding this out. I'm fine with having each guy carrying a different weapon but it would have been nice to have this info beforehand.
I was playing the first tourny with two ducks, using the one for the 1st and 3rd race. But the tourny never seemed to end. I'd win one race then it would go to my 2nd duck that was pathetic and would faint then immediately to the next race with my other duck. He'd keep winning I'd hit continue but it would just to loop. I had to click menu to stop the looping but didn't get any credit for the tourny, no final results.
Ugh don't like the controls for the 1st stage. It's fine for the rest of the game but frustrating during the beginning. I usually like these kind of artsy games but this one missed the mark.
