Solid game! It was definitely trying a bit too hard to be Super Spooky, relying a bit too heavily on tired tropes and haunted house props, but it did have some good bits. (Spoiler warning) My favorite is definitely the slow, heavily built-up camera pan when you go to check under the bed, only to find... nothing. Guessed the ending right away, but I played the original Exmortis which is basically the same plot, so I guess I had an unfair advantage. Had a little bit of a struggle with the overlapping commands--trying to use my camera to capture orbs would often result in me zipping down hallways when the orbs passed over a transition point, which was frustrating, but no serious interface problems. Got all the items on my first run, I'm glad none of them relied on you just blindly clicking around the floor until you found a near-invisible item--everything that is clickable looks clickable. All in all, for a first major game project, this was a really good job!
Managed to trigger a bug: Attacked a goblin, then accidentally clicked a space away so it began the Running Away meter. I attempted to click on the goblin again to cancel the runaway, and instead I jumped on top of the goblin's square. I cannot attack the goblin and all other squares are marked as inaccessible. I had to use my Wings and leave the dungeon to get out of the square.
There seems to be a bug where if you buy ammo for a gun you're not selected on, it will sometimes just take your money infinitely and give you no ammo. You have to make sure to equip the gun you want to buy ammo for first.
I'm enjoying the game. Reminds me a lot of playing Alien Swarm, and the thematic callbacks to Dead Space and Gears of War are amusing. Not sure how I feel about all the sound files lifted from Alien versus Predator, though--AvP2 is one of my all-time favorite games, and I'm torn between pleased to hear my old favorite aliens screeching and a little annoyed that my generic alien bugs are making Xenomorph noises. I'd suggest using some digital audio editing software to make your own alien noises rather than so heavily lifting from an old game.
Either this game has no proper ending, or I managed to glitch it out... As the final treasure said "Put three into your backpack to end the game," I wanted to see what was in the other rooms around the boss before I finished. So I put two in my backpack, and one in my quickslots. Now, when I try to put all three into my backpack... nothing happens. Even if I throw them all out on the ground and pick up all three again, the game does nothing.
There is a glitch that can be extremely frustrating--if you press space bar to restart before the "you are dead" box comes up, the box comes up over the screen while you control the characters... and if you finish the level while that box is there, it doesn't count as having beaten it and will not unlock the next level.
