This game is a VERY solid piece of work. If there are plans to improve and expand upon it, this is an EXCELLENT place to start things out. Runs smoothly, I feel the controls may need a little work but it could be my personal preferences (are they customizable?). I agree with what's been posted previously, feels like the good old Descent games mixed with Star Fox for great space shooting deliciousness! I would love to see more weapons, enemies, and the like. The polygon style feels pretty nice overall, and I love how the radar was done. It took me a minute to figure it out but MAN is it informative!

@henry700, this is from Ben on his forums: "...the server to run SFDG cost $180 a month and the game earned me about $2000 in total over something like 2 years. $180 x 24 = 4320. SFDG was not a big hit of a game, it only did well on kongregate where my in game ads arent allowed. " And furthermore, it's not just about obfuscating variables, it's about server security, which was compromised due to the game partially being ancient, and partially (as I understand) due to some exploits in code that existed at the time (SQL I believe). By the by, server security is something of not simple. Ben has someone working with him (as I recall) whose entire JOB is security. Furthermore I doubt Ben would retrofit this game because, as previously mentioned, not much in the way of profit to be made. But I digress, I miss this game.

My favorite part is the part where people say "Do XYZ to fix the game." As though the developer, who makes games for a living, doesn't know how to make a game more secure. There's something interesting, it's called 'time', and the more time passes, the more things you have to do to make a game secure against new threats. And some games are just too old to be financially worth overhauling. Hell at least Ben's still got the server up for the data so that people can still get badges.

@jooe15 All ship pairs are statistically identical (with the exception of the Nymph/Defender pair, Defender is larger but has 30 more shields). The only difference is with weaponry, alien weaponry tends to deal more damage, humans have slightly better selection of utilities (Energy Extraction Beam is better for long term fights than the Inhibitor, for example). It comes down to playstyle and some luck really.

First thing I did was right click for lulz. And lulz were obtained in a very Legend of Metroid fashion, you know where the guy throws the Digiball and catches the Goomba. You know what I mean?

Awesome, been wanting a Bullet Hell for awhile. Very reminiscent of Touhou for some reason... can't QUITE put my finger on it though.

Honestly, it's an interesting idea for a game, but the game not accounting for any lag for the timers is a real annoyance (My PC runs many flash games smoothly even on high quality, this game somehow lags anyway), and I hate being nitpicky, but when the grammar is bad enough it interferes with my game experience, it needs to be addressed. And I only vaguely understand there's some sort of back story... There should be a minimum of story or there should be plenty of story, somewhere in between and I feel... I dunno, like the game is lacking something. 2/5 for a decent game, but too many flaws for me to enjoy it. I want to know why this has a challenge associated with it at an average rating of 2.77

Something curious happened to me. I finished the game and decided to make a custom tank or two. I had a class 3 (maybe it was 4) tank with medium complexity overall, and used all 16 GP it was allotted. However, I browsed through premade tanks and then deleted the entry I currently had running. When I went back to the Tank Editor screen, it said I had a maximum of 14 GP and it wouldn't let me move bubbles/guns off, nor pick up new bubbles to increase the class size. It kept going "NOT ENOUGH GUN POINTS" and staying up there for about 8 seconds at a time. I gave up on the third Not Enough screen.

An amazing game. Fantastic graphics, excellent strategy and gameplay. Having some races locked out is meh, but it's not like it's THAT hard to go to the main site to go play. 5/5 and I hope this gets badges!

Unless the code was changed, Javelin missiles self-detonate at either 3000 or 3500 range. Furthermore, to optimize their use, use them only against large ships since even though they go in a straight line, they can start several distance units off center, so it's much easier to hit large targets rather than small ones. Good for spamming against large groups of medium-sized enemies. Plasma Cannon for many ships or Laser Beam on large slow ship with good locking and an Energy Cell or two usually does the trick for me.

Mmm, haven't played this since Open Beta... good stuff Ben, just plain old good stuff to do. Excellent game overall, I'm proud to have tested it. Fun fact - any track with "Dragonwood" and my name on it are going to test your skills to limits you never knew you had.

I had a tough time understanding this game at first, but I once I understood how to combine barrel-rolling, upping the ownage meter, and shooting Doctor Octagonapus, it wasn't too hard to get through after that.

The pattern mentioned for bosses caps out at 200 kills, 100 areas explored, and be out around 7000 distance for the final boss to appear. REMEMBER that bosses spawn ONLY within 10 areas of your starting zone. If you go outwards in a circular pattern you should make enough kills and find enough to get all bosses. Personally I find doing that until you reach around boss 7 it's fine, then you can speed it up by just going in lines in one direction until you are 10 zones out.

Fun game and all, but why do my units get hit on contact from bullets, while my shots HAVE to hit the center of my opponent? 4/5, some lag issues and a quality adjustment button would be nice.
