Start the game in challenging, beat the game, max out five characters' stats, then use those five characters to beat the game in Seriously Hard. Also, your characters gain 0.5 stat points each mission; sending more characters will train more of them faster. Get the hospital first, then farms next, and maximize your manpower along the way.
These tenets are how I got the achievement and got #9 on the scoreboard with 289,793 score. Knock me out of the top 10!
The reason the upgrades feel like they don't do anything is that you're upgrading as fast as everyone else. If you can't upgrade fast enough, you start dying repeatedly.
I particularly like how it made me feel when, upon encountering the final boss, I found that I couldn't beat him; so then I realized that I was close to being able to keep up with his attacks by dodging them, except I needed to be a little faster. So then I spent the next 2 days getting ready by grinding for levels, picking up stronger and stronger equipment in the process, to the point where, when I finally contronted him, I killed him in less than a minute. Awesome.
Everyone is saying that this planet must be absolutely massive to have all the meat that it does. From the perspective of an ant, a planet must be several trillion times bigger than it is from the perspective of a human.

ya know, hackers dont work well with snipers or machine guns. I'm just sayin', because a sniper hacker never gets to hack and a machine gun hacker actually loses damage points due to less hacking range.
@ohjoy, dont be an idiot. with legs comes the card "run". if i damage your hamstring, you lose the card run. if i heal you, you get it back. your deck of cards=your abilities=whether or not you can pull an epic dragonslaying stunt.
