There is no challenge whatsoever. You upgrade, click launch (if you're lucky you might have a launcher that requires you to click. . . but you'll soon have to sell it for a more boring but stronger one), work for 20-30 seconds, and repeat. If you can't tell whether a game is bad (and feel a strong urge to just give it 5 stars out of habit), check whether it passes the following test. Test: If a 4-yr-old can beat a chess champion at the game in a sincere competition (say by beating the game the fastest), then the game is crap. Give the crap games 1 star so that developers are motivated to do better.
Fun game, but space is not simulated at all. Not only is momentum lost when the afterburner finishes firing, but trajectory changes when I look left/right. This should be billed as a "flight" (as in, gliding on air) simulator staged in space, not a space simulator.
P.S. Note on the developer's comment about muted space sounds: it's true that explosions and such would be muted, without a physical medium to propagate through, but you would still hear noises caused by vibrations within your own ship, or explosions near your ship that cause turbulence. To my mind, this leaves room for some truly awesome environmental ambiance -- the sort of artistic realism that could really set a space simulator apart from the mediocre pack, without adding significant difficulty to the programming project.
Great game with tons of potential. If a couple of really frustrating problems were addressed, I could give this the 5/5 it almost deserves.
Easy fixes.
1) needs a restart button.
2) cannot move after selecting building to build (Workaround: if you select and unselect the build button again, you can move around the map and place your chosen building wherever you like).
3) in lvl 6 the flying creeps fly off the map and the lvl will not recognize a win (happened to me 3 times in a row before ragequitting the lvl and the game).
Other fixes:
4) tooltips saying which creeps turrets will and will not fire at.
5) exp meter for turrets and reactors so that I don't drive off right before an upgrade is rdy.
6) upgrades for builder (movespeed upgrade would be fantastic for larger lvls).
A fun remake of a common game style, but with too many programming flaws. 1) no "back to menu" button (for loading a saved game), 2) no "back to planet" button (in case you chose not to go to "next level" after beating level 1), and 3) either save doesn't work or else saved games won't load.
I chose not to go to next level--wanted to redo the 1st level once more for all upgrades--but then noticed that I could not find a way to get back to the planet to choose the next level on my own. So, I saved and refreshed the webpage. I could not reload my game and had to start from scratch. Maybe it was just buggy for me, but seems like the game is still a bit rough.
For the first time in two years of playing on Kong I am unable to identify in the slightest with the interest that a game has generated. Am I missing something? Correct me if I'm wrong, but this accurately sums up the game: 1) line up, 2) click, 3) watch, wait, 4) some time later repeat . . . I'm at a loss to say more.
I can already feel the motivation flowing from your sage advice. You have just changed the industry!
