You never need to combine anyone, just infantry can destroy every level easily with less than 3 minutes of grinding. Follow one strategy, ice the tougher enemies, especially the mage and use the burst skill on them when they are frozen so they will stay in place allowing your army to wail at them. Because you have superior numbers enemies are just being smothered by your ninjas and they often die before any AOE attacks do real damage

I think the icon of the enemies being made into a guy with a turban may be a bad joke, something to consider

@ckc1 5 seconds is not exactly a short time so I'd imagine if you get stunned poisoned, frozen or get hit by a large damaging spell that medica might not make it
