ONLY buy the upgrades at least THREE at a time to save HALF the cost. If you buy them one at a time you pay for each and every one. If you buy three at a time, you only pay for the last one each jump. Saves a TON of $$. Got me to max rockets and gliders in 14 days and it was a cake walk from there.
