I think the brother(who I imagine you're controlling) is a heavy drinker, and this all a some sort of his dream of domination over animals(which he hates?). For one, the first elephants you encounter are pink - clearly indicative of the presence of alcohol. Second, his mother is sucking up the gold with a vacuum; who brings vacuums to the forest, while camping? Everyone knows nature abhors them. Furthermore, judging by the flora, this is certainly NOT Africa, nor anywhere else that could possibly have lions and hippos and elephants.
