If you wanna make your own meter, first click insert symbol in insert, then draw the bar with the backdrop, border, and bar. Then make the bar a movieclip as well, so it's a movieclip in a movieclip. Name that instance bar.

The second boss is tough. Be persistent, what would a game be with easy bosses? Yeah, he either hit you in the back, the head, or your armor had low ranged defense.
