The fire pillar might be worth 100 gold, for tight spot but not worth investing more. The evles are the best as each is like a powerful archer tower, but you need to put soldiers in front of them so they dont melee and die. the sasquatch doesnt really work because he is not in a strategic position.
upgrades might not seem to work on challenges, but they do, just not all upgrades and only to a certain level. you wont know until you experiment abit. for example, the legionaire dont throw spears in some challengers, but in the last one, they do. dont know if it is a bug or intended.
to pass "who this guy", the 2nd last level, what i did was create 5 pistols with a knife in front. dont try to kill everything, becase i cant. you only need to kill 3 out of 5 of them to survive. each one of them comes down a row, so block 3 rows and you win. first start with the middle row then the bottom row, then the 2nd last bottom row. of course the sheild method is suppose to work, but i cant do it on the hard setting.
The end game escaping from bridge is easy as hell. You do realise you walk slower backwards then forward? so just walk foward, dont even have to shoot or run. when the zombie catch up behind, you, he will do through his attack animaition and miss, because you have walked out of his range
Tips:
If companion is dead or on the ground. restarting "outside" or "inside" will lose him/her. what you should do is reload the webpage.
if you are getting swarmed, save and reload, and all the zombies will disappear and the zombie rush will stop. Also works for the last mission when you are escaping the bridge, and you want to have a companion when you escape.
i saved up all the books and max smarts to 100. books will give you +7 at this point, customise and start with 10 luck and max it to 20 and alot of food and books will drop. you will never run out of food even with 1 endurance.
While this will be improved in the next build (upgrading and selling will take a bit of time, and can be canceled), I really need to do a better job of corralling people towards the upgrade tool. The upgrade tool is a far faster and cleaner way to upgrade.

Defend or skip turn will help in planning strategy such as recharging your spells for next fight. Also attack multiple targets may be a good thing for your gem shop.
zodiac is easy if you arm yourself with 2x deep blue and try to freeze him. I had phoneix's egg which ws helping too and he was only managed to hit me once before he died.
