The only real negative of the game is the very limited view you have. It does feel good when you reach full upgrades, realise the points are exactly enough for that, and then there can be only one level left. A big boss.
Overdrive is a great way to not see what's happening. I also find the controls a bit awkward, but they're possible to get used to. The offset needs a sensitivity config, though, since I frequently overshoot even if I just tap it. It's also one of those games you're screwed if you happen to move the mouse outside the field, which is very easy to do.
Like with the first game, I still want a manual day advance option. Having time pass automatically is just annoying, since either you miss things because time passes, or you wait because time passes too fast.
I'm not really sure if there's any challenge in it, other than just clicking right. Which isn't difficult as you can redo it if you're even a pixel off.
Some hints: For the first maze, going under the second pillar (between the spikes) is usually easier than up and around. For most of the invisible mazes, you can stroll along the ceiling with relative ease. The cannons are really the only thing you need to worry about, but you'll get their timing down eventually. Falling floors and lasers are never a threat. Sawblades are only dangerous if you forget about them. There's only one level you need to go around the rising spikes towards the end (and not just above them all). Also, if you have a gamepad you can configure to controls, try it. Or you can try to use one hand for movement and one for jumping (left-right + W or A-D + up).
For a strategic game, it's just too much based on luck. Which is very annoying when there's no speed-up button. Even with five (or three, or four) evenly spaced flamethrowers on level 3, there's still a high chance of enemies getting past, and that's before any other enemies show up.
Are grenades so slow to use because they'd be overpowered otherwise? Two hints: You can shoot faster by simply rapidly pressing the shoot button, and you can charge a grenade while shooting. Personally I twice had problems with the controls locking (right/6), which meant putting in the code was impossible without unlocking the keys (not sure how I did that).
The most annoying part of the game was the camera. If you spread out too far, it was impossible to see what drops you had left. If you had left any. That takes away from the fun.
The victory conditions are very odd. I've won missions where I was eliminated, won some defence missions after killing two ships, and some missions never end despite there only being one side left, either me or the opponent.
