Best item in the game is a Staff of Resurrection, which returns the hero to the town at 0% hp. So it can damage the dragon each turn more than its regenereration, job done.
It's a terrible game if you like billiards, physics are really bad, collisions are so far from real ones you can't rely on whatever you know about them.

In Dnmark, the third truck just falls if you hit the second one with the nuke, can't kill it from that.
MIRV won't explode if it touches a helicopter and just falls, can't even continue the game.
