An old, fairly worn out idea ... that somehow has been turned into an awesome game. Woohoo.
The time trials are friggin' impossible, though. I can do the first couple but the hard speedrun is just ... ugh.
3 Big Problems: 1. The game is fairly laggy. I've lost several battles because at the crucial point in the battle, the planes from my ship just refuse to release their bombs and keep flying. 2. Too little replayability: it takes about 10 - 15 matches in total to work out the best strategy on every map, and most of the nuances of the way the game works. The game tries to solve this by having lots of different guns, but fairly quickly players realise that there are only a select few that are worth purchasing. 3. The upgrades improve people that are better to the point where there's no chance that they can be beaten: if 2 players are using the same tactic, but one moves faster etc. then the fight sill always be won by them. || Aside from that, the game's good fun -- tiny dino's with ships on their backs are delightful; working out the best strategy is interesting; trying out the different weapons is fun. ... but none of this excitement will last for more than an hour. Maximum.
This tactic works on ever map, on any difficulty setting:
Get millions, and millions, and millions of Tack Towers, and then upgrade them to Blade Towers. Get one Super Monkey. Get a Cannon for splitting the Lead Balloons.
And ... that's essentially all there is to it. The rest of the towers are dire, although Spike - O - Pults are worth getting if there's a long, straight strip that you can place the next to.
The big trouble is that 2/3 of the tank builds suck (sniper, the really heavy tanks, leecher etc.) and get owned, and the rest are wildly easy to kill with.
Another trouble is because of the limitations of the game, very little skill is involved -- circling enemies while firing works EVERY time. Because your craft is so big, and because it is reasonably unresponsive, the game can't be made harder because you can't dodge all the enemies bullets.
All in all, it's fun for 5 minutes ... but once you've got to the top once becomes dire.
