Hey DemonicHappiness – Great question! My name’s Nate and I help with the technical, art and sound aspects of Slayaway Camp, but have also done some minor programming on the game, and have previously developed my own game, Cosmochoria before starting on Slayaway Camp. Cosmochoria was created in a game engine called “Construct 2” which i found to be very intuitive and easy to learn. I spent about a year just toying around with Construct 2 before actually sitting down to make a proper game in it, but I was mostly experimenting and just learning some basic concepts. Once I began work on Cosmochoria i learned a lot and all really quickly as I spent daily time working on it after I finished up at work.

We developed Slayaway Camp in Unity, and as easy as it was to learn Construct 2, i really think if i had spent that time learning Unity it would have been a better long term solution. Unity is much more powerful and can build to many more platforms which makes it a lot more versatile of an engine. Construct 2 is easy to use but is a little limited in power because you’re basically building a HTML5/Javascript version of your game, which isn’t known for ‘raw power’.

Whatever you decide to use, RPGMaker, GameMaker, Unity, Unreal, Construct 2 – just know that it will be hard at first but the more you practice the easier it will become. Try to spend an hour a day in it and you will be miles ahead of even the ‘average’ in no time at all. There are so many resources you can draw on from google that will answer your questions or teach you the basics. The bottom line: GO FOR IT! :D Practice as much as you can with whatever you choose and you will have the power to make crazy cool stuff. :) Would love to be kept up to date with anything you make too!

Hey spudly this is a known bug and we are working on a fix for it and hope to have it released in the next update.Sorry for the inconvinience but i hope you can still enjoy playing the game. Happy Slaying!

Hey Davidor, We’re sorry if the game offends you in any way. Our game is based on 1980’s horror movies but we have taken a very cartoon approach to avoid any realism that may offend people. We do have Kongregate’s support and did have to get it approved by them before it went on the store.

We are truly sorry if it has offended you, and will of course take your comment into consideration for future updates to ensure we never truly cross the line into something unacceptable for 13+ year olds.

Thanks so much for the attempts, but it still has the same problem, once it has the black screen, it brings up a screen where i can choose 3 options, continue script, debug script, or stop script. If i click continue, it crashes.
