One of the most simple, yet most amusing games I've probably played - ever!
It succeeds where 90% of Kong games fail: Jude confines the scope of his game and doesn't overextend himself. This leads to a simple, short game that you can enjoy, kind of like a good speech that has a clear opening, body, and ending. This game doesn't even try to compete with the more fancy games, and it's a better game because of it. 5/5

I really like the ideas in this game, and a lot of the game is well done. I personally don’t feel much of a desire to play the game - it just doesn’t interest me (I prefer competitive games) - but I encourage the developer to keep making games of this quality (or higher; higher would be great!).

Also, another thing: R-Type had beautiful art and colours that did a damn good job at creating a suspensful, horror-type experience (for lack of a better description). So many flash games are very dark in terms of the colour used. IMO, it doesn't add much to the game.
I really enjoyed R-Type, Tsukari, but this game is rather tedious. I think it's largely because you're fighting with the input method the whole time. I used a joystick to play R-Type, so I was able to focus more on the experience (which was just awesome... have yet to play anything like it since). This game has sound concepts, but I don't think they translate well to the in-browser flash game medium.

I made a forum post in response to the whole "retro vs modern" graphics debate. If anyone is interested, you can read it here: http://www.kongregate.com/forums/3/topics/5990#posts-103146
For those who like this game, I highly recommend that you check out the game, 'Black and White' (avoid Black and White 2). I've a feeling B&W inspired this game.

* Pirating the seas just isn't the same without insult sword fighting, some vats of red dye, a quick-witted fat kid who sells cannons, and a giant demon chicken. (Anybody get the reference there?!)

* Smash Brothers (ie. the real version by Nintendo) is a great game because it has good rule design and the simplistic, “easy to learn, hard to master” controls largely eliminate the massive learning curve associated with other competitive multiplayer games.
* Unfortunately this re-make of Smash Brothers has none of what makes the Nintendo version(s) great, and while it’s certainly a nice idea and a pretty good attempt on your part, I’d leave Smash Brothers to Nintendo.
* You clearly like the game (at least enough to practically clone it), so why don’t you make a new game that is more suited to flash using the ideas that work so well in Smash Brothers? I think you’d come up with something much more solid, and something that stands strong by itself without needing to borrow from the strengths of another game.

* Great game, but I'd get rid of that terrible screen overlay (ie. the diagonal lines). It obscures the text at the bottom (ie. where it shows what level you’re up in during gameplay, etc) and just makes the game look bad for no good reason (since everything else looks great).
* Also, Flash devs have this nasty habit of making most text in games small and hard to read. Increasing the size of the text that shows when you place a weight down (ie. the text that tells you it's weight) would be super.
* Make those changes and your overall presentation would go up a few notches. It'd also be nice if the mouse pointer didn't change into a cursor at certain spots on the screen, but otherwise, great game! (Excellent music as well. If you made it yourself, very nice work.) 4.5/5 stars! (I can’t give you 4.5 stars, so I gave you 5 stars... strange presentation decisions aside, the gameplay is solid enough to round the score up instead of down.)

Great concept, great music. Good to see a game not extending it's station and just focusing on what it does best.
I’d like to see you expand the concept further, though. My advice would be to flesh out the gameplay by staying in the sweet spot of "challenge" and “the player is still learning something”. Oroboros is a great example of a game that does that along with not extending it's station. It also has a novel way of letting you keep playing if you want without impacting the game experience for players who want to stop when they finish the game.
There seem to be a few issues with the space ship thing when you die. I also believe the game could be a little more intuitive. Other then that, not bad at all. 3 out of 5.

You not only understand how to make a flash game that is compelling to play, but you also create one that is actually challenging AND enjoyable. Kudos to you! (Excellent game. 5 stars)

What a fun game. It honestly had a smile on my face from the moment I first started playing it and minutes later I’m still smiling. =) The concept may be simple, but the design, execution, and overall presentation is excellent. And I personally think the icon is adorable and quite fitting for the game. 5 stars!
