So I realized it wants a level 1 PLUS dude, but I have one and it isn't working.

I don't understand what I'm supposed to do when the game asks me for a level 1 dude of some sort (ie; level 1 Rust chicken for the machine quest) and all I'm matched against are higher level dudes. How do I decrease the level?
