SUPER CHALLENGE: July 28. JUST MORTARS!! No blasters, or drones. I gave up after 20 minutes. Don't know if it can be done. It is definitely the hardest challenge I've offered. I won't be offended if you don't try it.
@iMiPi: I worship the ground you float above. The best I can get is 5 collectors gathering 2 upgrades. I can build all 5 collectors but the creeper gets my bottom totem around 1:10. I have no idea how you exist until 1:28 without weapons. Do you build stuff to act as a dam or something?
You 2 guys humble me every time. CHALLENGE: (Probably impossible) July 25th with no weapons. I got close, but the creeper always broke my last collector before activation. I ended up with a 3:37 using weapons for my first with weapon time.
@iMiPi: I have a favor to ask. Would you do the build speed upgrade vs. energy upgrade experiment on July 22? I went from 8420 to 8666. I'm sure you'll crush my time either way. No drones if you'd like to make the experiment more dramatic. Thanks.
Question of the game for all you time-junkies™. Is it better to build some collectors and move over them or to just move the city to its best spot and build from there? My best time on July 20 (3:36) came from moving the city immediately, but I am open to all of your insights.
@iMiPi: It appears you have given yourself a challenge. Find a map where you can quickly collect 1 (and only 1) upgrade. Defeat the evil creeper in your usual fashion and compare the 2 times. If you do this on a couple of maps. My gut feel is that the 20% build speed (acquired quickly) is the best choice always. I would rather have 12 collectors at normal production (call it 12 x 100 = 1200) instead of 10 units at heightened production (call it 10 x 110 = 1100). But, I am open to continuing my education under your tutelage on this subject. :-)
@Selieno: Okay, I redid July 17 with the following self-imposed rules: Don't move the city. Don't use pause. No drones. Eliminate all creeper. Then I turned on the green packets. I did allow speed packets and I did allow movement of mortars and blasters. Here is a screenshot of the 9:35 time. I did make a few mistakes along the way, but left them in. Now you have something else to talk about. Thanks for the challenge. By the way, I'm not one of the super good players. :-) https://picasaweb.google.com/chilesej/Artwork#5901805418655423746
@Selieno: I went back to July 17 and attempted the old school approach. No pause. No moving the city. No drones. Sadly, I forgot to turn off the green packets and the game ended. Yes, it does take longer, but it is still fun. Just a different type of fun. I am surprised that you are against moving combat units (blasters, mortars). That isn't cheating, it's normal military planning. You move your troops where they are needed. So I'll attempt this again without moving the city, no pause and no drones. I'll turn off the green packets until every drop of creeper is gone and all 5 emitters are capped. Then I'll end the game and hopefully post my score.
@Selieno: It doesn't remove the challenge, it merely has a different goal, time. The game can be played many different ways: Least time, Remove all Creeper first, Survival, Without Pause, etc. The player gets to choose what method he wants to use. Sadly, the only mode that can be effectively shown is least time. It would be wonderful if we could choose setting and have our results displayed for that set of parameters, but the game does not allow that. In fact, I will often replay a level and go for a different goal, like total creeper removal. Im sure the truly good players, FroztySilva, iMiPi and others also play a level with different goals upon replay. What you suggest is that the only way we can compare methods is on a set of parameters you disagree with. That is certainly your opinion. In honor of your mild protest, I will go replay today's map (I got 3:23) with the intent of not leaving until all the creeper is gone.
@LydonC: Please don't apologize for a great score. I gave it another shot. The smallest setup I could get ended up with 6 collectors, but my time was in the low 2 minutes. If you could repeat (or even come close) to the time and capture a .jpg of your layout, I'd appreciate it. It's always a pleasure to see the game layouts from others.
@iMiPi: I challenged myself too. One move to a slightly further back location. 3 powerups, 1 Blaster. July 13, at 1:54. Photo here: https://picasaweb.google.com/chilesej/Artwork#5900308867400243154
@iMiPi: I paused long enough to pick up a powerup along the way. Only made 1 Blaster and was able to get to 1:59 on the 7th try. It's my mini-challenge to you. Sub 2 minutes on July 13. I know you can beat it. :-) I forgot to take a picture. Grab that powerup on the way to final position and just 1 Blaster. Make me proud.
