After a thousand restarts I finally get the joke, the two doctors in zone 1, Doctor Heath and Doctor Ledger are a reference to Heath Ledger playing the Joker.
What makes multiplayer armies 'easy' -- or at least not as difficult as they say they are -- is the fact that you have control over your troops and defend mode is pretty over powered.
Sandbox games can't get badges last I checked, probably because they'd all be super grindy or exploitable. (E.g. if there was a badge to deal X damage, you could easily automate it using cloners and such.)
