Used to play this years ago when it first came out. Actually made it to the last level of difficulty. You did not transfer it over to flash correctly, in the older version hitting the sides of the walls would not end the game, but now they do. You should fix it, its probably why the rating is lower than it deserves. It makes the game less fun if hitting the side of a wall ends the game, especially if you are used to playing it the right way. There are spots where you wall hug and it makes total sense to do that.
The thought behind my strategy is that i have nothing on my ship that can be destroyed because fighters rebuild, and they usually don't steal your kills. Its about increasing your damage output without risking any money on turrets that get destroyed. So, you don't upgrade anything that doesn't increase your damage output except the repair drones which basically make you invulnerable.
Just beat it on hard mode first time without cheats. The key is upgrade order. Get your main cannon attack and fire rate up and one flack cannon in the middle for defense with your first 100. After that level up only your main guns attack and fire rate for the cannon, nothing else for that it. When you start to take a little damage get a repair drone. The most important thing is to not get any turrets save the first one and don't bother upgrading it. Just upgrade your main cannon to max > repair bay to max > fighter planes. You will not have enough money to fully upgrade them, upgrade everything on fighters save build rate, and get 3 fighters per bay. Prioritize your targets mines > capital ships > asteroids > mid sized ships > little ships. The final boss didn't even take down 1/6th of my main ships hp.
