I think its an awesome little dungeon crawler, just like its supposed to be. Yes there are some things that could be done to make the game easier... but why? if it becomes too easy there is no pull to play longer and beat your 'score' (by which i mean the level you have gotten to). Personally, i think new characters would be better, and maybe a little balancing of the classes. Playing the paladin i got to maybe lvl 5 or 6... with the Vamp i hit 13. The life steal that the vamp has is much better than the defense that the pally has. Maybe increase the defending skills on the pally a little bit to be more in line with the vamp. Just so that both are fun to play.
i agree with everyone so far... great game, very simple. if you want story go play zelda or something. for a game this simple you dont need a story. Its like gauntlet, just go kill monsters and see how far you can get. Just an fyi... that is in no way a slam. a game this simple doesnt need a story, and adding one would just take away from the simple joy of going down a dungeon, killing monsters and finding treasure.
As for the cons... i also agree with everyone so far. Magic is just too time consuming to use.if i can kill a monster in 3 swings, and it takes 2 of those swings to cast a spell that does the same damage as 1 swing... there isnt any point in casting the magic. now if we could target a monster with the spell, for example cast fire at a blob, then charge in and start combat that would be cool. would make all those 'mage' items more useful.
