In German the phrase "Treffen sich..." usually initiates a pun that ends with ambiguous words, quite similar to the English "Knock, knock" jokes. "Treffen" is a dual-use word and can mean "to meet" or "to get hit" - in this case by a bullet, because Jäger means hunter, and hunters carry rifles. So if they fire the rifle, the bullets can hit people. Therefore the hunters can either meet or shoot each other, the meaning is ambiguous (and isn't that a screamer...).
