@greg:
It's more of a buisness decision than a designer-freedom decision really. The content is freely developed, ofcourse, but having to go to another site to fully enjoy it could in the utter extremes turn Kongregate into a demo/adverticing playground where you can scout for new games, rather than actually play them. This is ofcourse entirely up to you as admins to consider, but for myself - I don't consider this "fair play", and even though the game itself is brilliant, my own rating is going downwards because of things like this, just like awfully forced ads to external sites in other developers games tend to do.
The ONLY negative things here is the fact that you have to leave Kongregate to play all the levels. Something I hope the Kongregate admins frowns enough upon to get "fixed" eventually.
The concept is decent, sadly the speed on the "ball" is horrible, I got annoyed and stopped playing halfway through the second level. Crank up the speed 5x or more, and it'll score better for sure.
Having to reload the page every time you run out of particles = points lost.
Having to see a splash AD (I mean seriously) every time you run out of particles = dragging an otherwise nice game way below its potential...
The longer i keep playing for, the more obvious the balance issues becomes. Currently at around 3000 killed zombies - I have all upgrade, all weapons, bunker with 50k hp and 9k hp on my character. 2 major issues are showing:
* Zombies do way too low damage compared to the level. When my bunker has 50k hp I could just go sit on it and eat dinner during the level, because the zombies still do around 1 dmg/sec average each, and its just 1500 exp to repair it afterwards.
* Huge spread in exp gain between what weapons you use. With all upgrades, I get around 10-12k exp in clearing a level with the Autoshottie or the Assault rifles, and more than 100k by clearing it with the Laser cannon.
Suggested solution: Retune Overkill to give a maximum bonus exp equal to the exp given by killing the zombie. That way Overkill with highdamage guns would yield about the same damage as Bloodlust with a low-damage gun, like the Jackhammer.
Very nicely made game, although it needs some balancing - Especially in the combinations of powerups and weapons. An early laser gun + overkill means that the next level you can buy all the weapons and upgrade your health levels quite heavily very early on. From there on out its pretty much as fun as you can make it with endless waves of zombies dying. Going from struggle to laughably easy in only a few levels. Anyway - very decent work with the coding - that many gunshells and corpses added over the levels and still i get no additional visible strain on the machine - very well done.
