Found the first game to be someone difficult to get into at first, but each successive one in the series dragging me deeper in, culminating in this very satisfying finale. One nitpick would be that it felt less like it was inspired by Film Noir and Lovecraft, and more inspired by other homages to Film Noir and Lovecraft, almost like having them described to me in a third-hand account. Despite my snobbish complaint, it's a pretty damn fun game.
To be honest, it is more than a homage.
WE ARE H.P. LOVECRAFT.
We were once a human being, just like you, but then we had to fake our death to escape unspeakable enemies.
We travelled in space and time and our soul become shattered.
Centuries after, we're now a reunited mind.
Fear us, buuuuh!
Add keyboard controls, only two buttons would be required; Up and Space maybe.
An at-will or rechargeable "bullet-time" ability would really improve the game, don't know how practical it would be to implement, but it already slows at road blocks.
I've noticed some upgrades don't work reliably. Esprit de Corps rarely extends the barracks rally point, and I have yet to see Reinforcements target any unit with ranged attacks after purchasing Recurve Bow. These problems occur when playing on Firefox and Chrome. (Game is great outside of those issues.)
Also... once a creature's weakness is discovered there should be an icon or lable in battle above the creature from that point forward displaying the weakness everytime you encounter the creature because I can't be arsed to remember. Or a beastiary. Another thing, you should be able to re-arrange or remove spells and skills from the HUD because I don't want to see useless spells and skills I had to buy to forward the tree.
This game borders between fun and tedious. Despite the much needed changes to the Battle Mode with the army it's still extraordinarily tedious, something needs to be done to speed it up or add more active strategy. Also spells in battle need an indicator to show what's currently active and a timer to show their remaining duration. There should also be an option to buy back skills and points to rebuild your character. Just make it very expensive to maintain the feel of committing to a character build, or perhaps allow money to be spent on addition souls in some kind of infernal soul market.
