Shooting thru walls is a feature.
I don't understand, what is harder to buy good armor and good gun. Try to use the shop and sun from shots if you don't like death. This game needs expirience as all other shooters (remember Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Far Cry etc.). Develop your own good tactic and this game will look easier for you
