Adobe is quite aggressive about having Flash users switching over to AS3. These shootorials are thus... a long wanted blessing. Use them... and appreciate them.
About the key.as. It is a must to have your keyboard input handled as an arcade game and not as a text input (smooth instead of do,stop,do,stop...)

they added a Flash version detector, just because they are pro and now their 'pro-ness' causes the game to not work. Great job... you just had to look smart.
