Found a glitch for lots of gold and exp: once you are about to win a battle, switch to a new tab, this will still kill the enemy castle, but the enemy will still spawn units. Once you switch back to the tab with this game, the enemy units will all die and you will win the round.
so the main strategy I see is to: 1) load it up 2) go play another game 3) come back with serious cash from the achievement 4) upgrade fuel capacity 5) go play a third game 6) come back with serious fuel 5) launch yourself insanely high or far your choice.
