would be vastly improved if the kart upgrade system was more in-depth; firstly, having an actual upgrade system instead of this "race your engineers to 5 star a chassis" deal would be good. something along the lines of buying parts and having optional sidegrades that do different things, having fuel concerns and pitstops, all that stuff - that would be cool. i really like the idea of giving drivers in-race instructions, but that's about the only thing that would keep me playing this in its current state for more than a little while. might also consider being able to hire more racers, being able to choose different competitions to compete in and having different requirements and limitations for those or whatever. i realize that to implement all of what i'm suggesting would be a huge undertaking, but even just working on the upgrade/research system would vastly improve replayability.
people talking about pay to win confuse me. you can earn the crystals you need by playing for free, and they give you *tons* of them daily and through their journeys mode. i don't see *anything* that requires that you pay money to succeed. the black market modules seem pretty good and they're very expensive, but it's still technically possible to get them on your own without paying for anything, and the devs have to make money somehow.
honestly, i'm really impressed by this game. i'd love to see it fleshed out a bit more, with different multiplayer modes and a little bit less downtime between losses - maybe some way to use your ships to fight AI that ignores the repair timer? maybe boss fights? maybe double battles, with each player using two ships?
but the base of the game is really great, and interesting. looks like it could really be something with some work. 4/5 from me, but it'd be a 5 with more things to do and more variety with modules and ships.
