After finally winning, my main gripe is this: the "treasure" for completing level 4 of the sewers, core and ice caves is pure unenchanted crap. Pretty anti-climactic reward for the epic battles that led there. Is this intentional or a bug? Otherwise, this game is a solid 5/5 stars for me :)
Thanks! That's been on my todo list for awhile, having 'good' treasure in places where appropriate. Same would go in the rooms where there are 3 crystal chests to choose from, it should select 3 'good' and different items to make the choice interesting. Same goes for stuff behind locked gates. So at some future update I'll likely have some sort of generic way of generating 'good' items that takes into account what the player has, mods stuff appropriately etc.
I finally beat the game with a storm mage. The crystal golem that caused my super OP ranger to kill himself on my deepest run before this, I dominated and used him to have all the arachnid archers suicide on. Even the ice turret in the final glyph doors shot at me and ricocheted off the golem and something else and ended up wiping half their army :)
BTW, I would love to see a top 10 screen like in the original rogue that shows "Character X, Xth level killed by X on X level of the X dungeon." or Character X, Xth level won the game by acquiring the Goblet of Yendor in X time.
Definitely planned for the future. Its currently saving all of your previous games in order to generate the #wins, #losses, win streaks etc. so its just a matter of adding a new menu to display it.
Just finished my deepest run today down to 14/16 Yendor Vault. I had face a crystal golem 1 level up and killed it with a power shot plus a bomb. This one deflected all my bombs away so I hit it with a power shot and one-shotted myself. Having a +5 shortbow with 30 points in Ranged I critted myself for way more HP than I have. How do you kill these things?
Getting the +5 shortbow was no easy task either. I cannot figure out what to ask for from scrolls of acquisition/wishing wells. Ask for a weapon and get a melee weapon. Ask for a projectile and get consumable projectiles, which is it?
The way I got my starting bow up to +5 is as foillows. I enchanted it up to +3 with scrolls and enchanting table and next enchanting table refused to level it up anymore. Next time I asked for projectiles at wishing well, got 30 +5 javelins. I put those and my bow on a transference table and voila, +5 bow.
@erepaz For me, the level that had the stairs down to the sewers (level 9) had 2 sets of stairs, 1 to level 1 of the sewers and one to level 10. I think the sewers are a side quest. Quite the triple glyph doors/treasure trove at the bottom of the sewers :)
This game needs checkpoints. After I spend 5 days to get to a level 3 city and unlock the port, the last thing I want to do is claim my fee and start all over again. I think by this time you should realize I know I how get here and don't want to repeat it 100's of times throughout the game.
A fighter with max speed, Zeal and Life Leech running around killing everything in sight is like the guy from Crank. You should have Yakety Sax playing in the background. Only unfortunate side effect is if a monster is on the other side of the central portion of room and he can't reach it, he's stuck. Have to portal to town to clear.
In level 56, the 0 you have in the bottom right corner is impossible, it makes the 5 near it not work and mark a mistake if right clicked, please check.
Juggler makes sense. Every 4th ball is blue and gets eaten. Red ball makes him eat 5th and 6th ball, leaving 3 black balls. After 4 spins, you have 12 black balls (3x4).
As far as the first one, the arrows are your clues, it is counting space between bars and outside the bars (maybe the bars are platforms). So you will always have 1 more train than bar - 7 bars = 8 trains.
Edavidholley, I had the same issue. Came back a week later an continues, there was a green girl, Juni I think it was, there that I could have sworn wasn't there when I tried a week earlier. Talk to her and she gives you the quest to plant the seed, all flows from there.
