The game seems to be somewhat of a grind so far (lvl 11). The pets look different but don't seem to differ in action at this point in the game for me. The attacks/abilities (hot-keys would help) are good and the game is well put together. The game play is just a little one directional and could use variety.
It takes more time to use 16 herbs than one potion. You stand on a potion when you don't want your character to die. That would be why a person would pay more money to keep some potions around.
I was not a fan after one battle at the War academy. But after tasting a couple battles and unit purchasing/advancement on a campaign, I may be hooked. I'm getting definite Shining Force, FF tactics, Battle of Wesnoth, Master of Monsters vibes. Hope this gets good!
Advanced versions of this game would be fantastic. An X shape map allowing 2v2, 1v3, and free for all. Also adding the ability to hault, and retreat units would increase the dynamics of the game.
Kamakazee, repairs, and parting gift completely change the dynamic of the game. There may be more devistating spell cards. They allow you to completely come from behind and win. You can switch from surge offense to unit waste defense or resource mass & stall. I use about 25% gold boost cards and 3-4 crystal/iron cards each. This gives me about the right draw chance of each. I have a variety of units so I can utilize any of the four resources. This is one of the most strategic and fun protector games.
