I like it. No of course this doesn't compare to MGS but I do appreciate the influence. Further, I really appreciate the variable actions of the guards. That makes the difference between merely memorizing your way to completion, and actually having to think on your toes. Definitely more than meets the eye on this one.
Quite a surprisingly nice turret shooter you have here. The visuals are clean and attractive, and the gameplay is smooth. What this game lacks in originality it more than makes up for in overall production polish and quality. I agree with an earlier commentor that the opening bit is a bit dull, but once you get passed that, it picks up nicely.Lots of improvements can be made, but what I keep coming back to the fact that at it's core far too few games get posted here with level of basic quality.
There's a good foundation here. Gameplay is tight and responsive, and there is the potential for a well executed growth system. But unfortunately the game outgrows its infrastructure. For the first quarter of the game, you are treated to new moves and spells, but once you have cleared those out, this game does become little more than a grindfest. The monotony is offset a touch by the attempt to inject storytelling elements, but the gameplay doesn't take any real form of cues from the story (ie. the items you get from bosses could have been more specialized such that they inject more character into the boss fights, while at the same time rewarding the player with items that exhibit a greater resistance to obsolescence than any other item). I would like to see a better balanced and fleshed out sequel, but the only reason I'm still playing this is for the badges.
This is solid level design at its best. Good level design can take uninspiring pieces and parts and sculpt them together in new and interesting ways that keep you coming back again and again. Who needs story or fancy graphics when each successive level is a new joy to test your skills?
I know this is just a test game, but I have to say that you do have some VERY smooth controls over this. Not saying this is good, but I'm saying that there are at least some strong fundamentals at work here (Okay, hit detection is terrible, but you get my point)
Okay. I have 1009 coins. My only coin left is the one on S6. Is there any alternative to getting that coin that anyone knows about beside the one depicted in the video walkthrough that's going around? I've studied that video, and I just can't seem to do it. the last platform with the bird/worm combo stifles me something fierce.
Death Vegas is actually a very solid game, it, like other games occasionally here at Kongregate, just doesn't run very well here. I suggest giving it a second chance by playing it over at adult swim.
Also, if you really love fighting games, I suggest playing Spiritonin's Capoeira Fighter 3. That is an excellent fighting game made by the same guy that is a little more conventional in control and visual style than this game here.
