I always wanted to play Populous after watching my cousins play as a kid, but I never had the chance, so you've just fulfilled one of my childhood dreams--which is a weird sort of dream, but oh well.
I've played about 90% of these contest entries, and this is, by far, the best. You have an original idea (at least, I've never seen it before), and it executes nicely. The tutorial box helped me out with short but clear instructions. The graphics were not spectacular, but I really enjoyed the explosions. Great job, I hope you get more votes and win.
The cursors could use some graphic work. Why make them rainbows? How about different colored cursors that have varying attacks. I like the upgrade system, but I think you should work on its presentation a bit. Look forward to seeing a storyline. Right now, you need something to mix things up a bit because it really gets boring shooting the same thing all the time.
A nice adaptation of the rpg style. It took a few rounds to get used to the style, but once you get used to looking quickly at what your opponent is doing and know which moves it is most beneficial to interrupt, it becomes manageable. Some of the bosses and levels are quite hard, but I enjoyed the challenge. It pushed me to rethink my strategy. I'm very impressed by the art in this game, love that you can retry quests since you might not have enough gold for some, and I also enjoy the quests that are spread throughout, preventing the game from becoming arena match after arena match. Many could learn from that aspect of this game as I find that a lot of games are lacking even a fundamental story, which, while not always necessary, always enhances game play, which is exactly what your storyline did for me. It brought me into your world and left me wanting more more more.
Great game. Anything with happy smiling trees has to be good. I'm really impressed by the art style. You didn't just create a happy face stick guy--you actually gave him some personality with the flailing arms and tongue sticking out of his mouth. All the scenery is great. I had to go to your website and look forward to seeing some of those games you describe as being in the works.
I'm really impressed by this game. I love the way all the various gameplay elements come together to create a challenging but manageable game experience. The art is wonderful. I would love to see a RPG, like Mardek or Sonny, done with this graphic style--it would look amazing. Regardless, I look forward to more in the future.
