This isn't very fun. It just takes... so long to get anywhere. Upgrade games are quite fun when tuned properly, and the phase of relative helplessness is an important element. But! I STILL feel helpless after 10 runs. I want to upgrade my acceleration or something.
My only beef with this game is that the Game Over music is the coolest. I thoroughly enjoy losing due to this... (oh, and volume adjustment would be fantastic)
I was not impressed by the sychronization. You have to push the key just after you hear the note to get the 'perfect' mark. The controls were also a bit weird, but a rhythm game is not an easy undertaking, and for doing as well as this, you get credit. :)
The game tends to have a strange bug in which the audio and video become desynced, and it seems as if another match is taking place besides what I'm seeing on the screen and is jacking the audio. All the sound effects are off, and the music even changes on a game over. Once, the level progression was screwed up as well, with ships coming at all the wrong times and stuff. But besides these occasional bugs, this game is absolutely amazing!
Why is there an upgrade to reduce vibrations? That makes obtaining aberrant matter, an already extremely difficult task, even harder! I just use dynamite every time, since it's now impossible to get them. I can think of literally no reason to reduce vibrations since strange gloop is easy to get even at the start of the game.
The air stream isn't working for me. I want to go down, so I press down... and then I can't go back up again. Also, the display of what you just researched gets wiped away if you mouseover anything else, so I can see why people would complain about not knowing what they just discovered. It's not entirely clear exactly what causes bonus mode, other than discovering artifacts. There's something else too, but I don't know what it is. To be honest, I would like the game better without bonus mode. When I find something rare, I feel really guilty mining it without bonus on. Also, bonus doesn't seem to affect some things, like aberrant matter, and that should be clear in the tutorial (if it isn't already). Also, the tutorial discourages you from getting dripped on by lava, even though at first that's the best way to get the few globs you need to craft the machinery. Hey, I really enjoy the progression on the game! Excellent work!
I don't like how if you jump and touch the side of the ledge, you stop and fall back down. I could understand that for a ceiling, but it makes the jumps really frustrating.
The jumping is very clunky - but, we live and learn - look out for super slick movement, collision and jumping in the next one! (Or maybe I'll cut the feature...hmmm... :P)
Oh yeah, one more thing. I don't know if this is intended or not, but it's really easy to get rid of red tiles or swamp tiles by terraforming. Perhaps you could allow these tiles to exist on slopes? That would be complicated to do, though.
Enemy heros are too easy to defeat by drowning. Just dig out the ground beneath them right before they bridge over to your base. Only on the last level did the AI even try to save them by putting ground under them. Also, when I tried to dissuade enemies above my base from dropping in, I found that I could often dig out large channels into their base, disrupting their structures. Other times, I found that you should be able to build or dig somewhere (theoretically, since I just raised the ground right here, I should be able to lower it again), but can't. The script that determines whether you may terraform at a given location is not very good >.<
It's not a minigun. A minigun is so named because it's the miniature version of the tank machine gun. If it's on a tank... it shouldn't be a minigun. Well, maybe they're mini tanks.
I really enjoyed this game. It was well-designed, although a few wrinkles exist. I think the series has good promise. Even the story is noteworthy (albeit a little cliche).
Fixed in version 1.50K, should be now easier to get Aberrant Matter with upgraded vibrations. Also makes getting lava and Obsidian easier too.
