@LydonC: -10% cost never beats +10% production. you get the cost bonus only if you build, and you can not build all the time. but you produce energy mostly all the time :) a more interesting question is: what's better, the 20% build speed bonus or the 10% production. the answer depends on the actual map and your strategy.
i thought 1:39 could be the best possible time on july 13... well, i wasn't right :) 1:37 is possible too with the 10% energy upgrade http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/2483/0o7l.jpg http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/7794/u2kb.jpg http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/3572/ekxn.jpg previously i used the 20% build speed, but then there is too little power at the end.
ok, i gave it another shot :) july 13 in 1:40 http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/7295/0fkp.jpg http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/2705/yq4g.jpg http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/7544/mi2v.jpg
who is so bitter to click minus on a completely logical comment like "this is a pretty fun game" that perfectly fits to be a COMMENT ON A GAME? seriously, get help! go and get a doctor, dude before you physically hurt someone! you are mentally ill!
i was sleeping... for 3 days :) ...the june 13 in 2:29 http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/2627/xbs5.jpg http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/8606/agff.jpg http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/4083/2d0m.jpg
@fractalman: WHOA! CW3 is available already?! where? i thought it's still the alpha version in progress. my computer is an old laptop (2007): xp sp2 on double cpu (intel 1.66ghz), ati mobility radeon x1400, but with 2gb ram and 1gb virtual memory. it came with just 1gb ram - that was a joke of a snail speed. so, i bought some more ram. i use firefox version 13.0.1. the newest version of firefox is a joke too - there is nothing of all the good pro features in it. you need add ons even for the most simple stuff - if you want to manage the bookmarks or anything.
July 6 162:54 http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/8707/sw0c.jpg
I played until 120:05 http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/5518/ugyq.jpg http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/8447/s9tf.jpg
Then let run 10 Minutes. Last bombers at 130:14
http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/6416/zbrn.jpg http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/5928/ka7d.jpg
Then let game on and went to sleep.
Here's an early stage - some tactical movement i used massively later on: http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/4628/56io.jpg Note 3 weapons move simultaneously. Upgrades: http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/8979/2brx.jpg Starting setup 22:29: http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/5835/i2uf.jpg http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/8117/hesk.jpg with 3 fall back locations for the city. At the end i used only the last one http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/6416/zbrn.jpg I played this for many, many hours, and at the end i really couldn't keep my eyes open :)
@dgoodhue: good idea for the screenshots. but i like it better with mist and particle effects. it's a pity we have to restart the game if we want to change these settings.
@Yadoob: hey, cool! so, it's better to have a distance from strong emitters, not to cap them off. nice to know. i tested how much is possible to completely cap off. @chilese: i'm glad to see that :)
today's map is perfect for testing survival mode. i tested just how high creeper production is possible to cap off. this is how the setup looks 587 seconds after start of survival mode with 165.2 creeper production (it starts at 100 and the time jumps to 60 minutes): http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/8659/g8s2.jpg i didn't watch it until the end, so i just do the calculation from the finishing time. it was 77:32, that's 1052 seconds in survival mode, so with a linear growth rate must have been 216.8 at the end: http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/6951/1yxa.jpg in the last 8 minutes the energy collection was 32, the same as energy usage. it's not possible to use more energy than 32 (it's a limit in the game) so i didn't build more collection. maybe it would be possible to hold ground for a few more than 1052 seconds if you use more weapons, but i doubt it based on the energy usage limit.
@FroztySilva: :) but i still always get one minus on each comment very fast after i post it. i must have hurt the little feelings of one sweet little girly guy very badly :D he is just waiting all day for my comments to hit the minus immediately. that's his job now :)
in normal mode the emitters produce about 0.5 creeper each. in survival mode it's 20 each (total 100), so you get 40 times more creeper :) you can see it on the RED curve on this graph: http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/5577/jv20.jpg it grows about 40 times at the end, when i switched on survival mode. http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/7535/wujz.jpg the depletion was about 20 except when many mortars fired simultaneously - then it jumped up to the maximum depletion rate (32) for a short time. it's possible to stand ground like that for a long time, maybe for 30 minutes, until the max. depletion rate is enough to match the growing rate of creeper output. it grows by 0.1 each 0.9 seconds (by 100 each 15 minutes) so it doubles in 15 minutes after start of survival mode.
@Priem: to hold ground on survival level you should build up energy collection to 32, have about 2-3 circles of blasters around each emitter and 2-3 rows of mortars next to them. it's a good idea to have some speed nodes and storage nodes, and have the city near the target.
this could have been an awesome game, if (first) ALL levels, including the LAST LEVEL would be possible to finish, (second) if it would be possible to get 3 stars on all levels, (third) if it would have an IN GAME DESCRIPTION like a help where it would say exactly what are the rules to get 3 stars. i regret i played it. it's a pity i have to give it one star to rate it. i would love to give 0 of 5 stars.
@joeboats: you will need at least one mortar and i guess 5 blasters, and maybe one more heavy weapon (mortar or bomber) but more weapons are harder to maintain, so keep it low. get first the upgrades before you build your base.
@joeboats: if you mean the june 28 map, here is what i would do (i didn't play it yet). get 2 upgrades: 20% build bonus and 10% energy bonus. build up a strong starting base on the upper left corner (as many reactors as you can), and then go for it :)
