If you're going for the long putt achievement (The putt is the last shot you take before you get it through the gate) go to the Sparkathlon cup, skip to the 6th level, and aim over the top of the pink planet, full power, get as close to the planet as you can. Okay, my tactics were:
1) If you don't get a rainbow note before the first deep note comes in, restart (press space then restart)
2) If there's a red note in the way of a purple note, grab the purple anyway, it'll pick up any yellows you drop.
3) If you're lucky enough to get a purple note and a rainbow note on the same screen, get the purple first. If you get the rainbow note, it turns the purple yellow.
