what is the formula for particles? i know heat and power do it, but at what rate?

is it possible to put in an "auto pause" that will pause the game 1 or so ticks before your reactor goes Chernobyl? i have lost full reactors due to missclicking, especially a hot reactor, don't always notice in time and this would save a bunch of frustration
