I don’t know enough about the others to speak to them, but the economy boomed under Coolidge. I would imagine, if I did know more about them, that comparing them to socialist states is a laughable assertion at best.
Yeah, good point. I didn’t do my homework very well when I came up with that list.

Ha, it happens. I’m just very defensive of Coolidge. He gets a bad rap and unfair blame for the Depression – it had far more to do with Hoover and the policies of the Fed.

Plus, I don’t think anyone knows a thing about Tyler’s presidency. I’m more impressed you actually knew John Tyler was a thing.

Don’t be. I lifted it from a ‘best libertarian presidents’ blog. I’d have gone with Reagan but apparently he’s not high on anyone’s list.

I really hope he’s inebriated from a Super Bowl party. He’s even less coherent tonight than the norm, which is really saying something.

Good question – mostly stupidly stubborn. Although I can think of one instance of someone who’s stubbornly stupid.

Are you as exasperated as I am with the sort of people who blame the media for everything, who act as though journalistic bias is rampant and writers are all corrupt? I knew a poli sci prof one time at a conference he made the claim that the media are directly responsible for the success of Al Qaeda. I put a signed letter in his mailbox ripping into him. Although strangely enough I like Noam Chomsky. Mainly because his take on media bias is at least a well-formed theory that looks deep into language use in individual headlines and articles, instead of pouncing on editorials and corporations the way most critics do. Of course I’m biased because both my parents and an uncle are / were journalists and copy editors. Have you managed to find a job applicable to your degree? show less
