how would it defeat the purposes? yes the metaphors is a possibility but even so there are other paradoxes that are in that book. just look at my argument. And i do agree that you could neither prove that god is real in the hearts and minds of humans. lets define "real". in order for something to be real it must be either made of matter or energy. Air is real because it is made of oxygen and nitrogen, along with a few other gasses. if something is made of energy or matter then they are subject to the laws of physics. if something is subject to the laws of physics then they cannot preform miracles. If god cannot preform miracles then he is not all powerful and therefor not god.
ok 4000 years ago the ancient greek believed in zeus, and the gods of Olympus, they built buildings in honor of him. Romans had an idea of the same god but they called him jupiter. the ancient egyptians had gods like anubis. The germanic people had god like thor.you know what we call that now? mythology. so how do you know that in a couple thousand years the christen god wont be mythology. They believed in them so much that they would kill each other in there gods name. seems kind of like how thing have been across time hmm? its nothing but an excuse to persecute a group of people.
see thats how religion controls people "do this or you will be punished forever" what u said is proof that religion is made to control. if god is all powerful then why did he make a mistake with adam and eve with the whole tree thing? and there are multiple religions that say if you aren't this religion your going to hell. so if this is all true then we are all going to hell. and what god would let everyone on earth go to hell?
goffy its called the god theory for a reason and there is plenty of evidence to support the evolution theory. He knows that god doesn't exist the same way u know he does. He goes with science and evidence you go with the words of a book.

actually science says that we are a series of genetic mutations that evolved to adapt to our envoirment. that we evolved from apes who in turn evolved from other primates

How would we all be dead hmm? we would still have the feeling of loss and that would make murder taboo just like today. ever wonder why animals dont like when someone messes with the baby kid? its because they have the same feeling of loss. and ax its a way of us humans to explain what we dont know and feel like we have some control. humans are control freaks, thats why ancient religions had a god for everything to please one good to make something happen. and sirpenwig see religion calls us close minded but when have i once said anything like "you stupid peoples". And i come from a catholic family but first of all, old testament says god created us in his image. so not matter what we would exist. if the bible was true, that is.
plus its my believe that the world would be better if not for religion. was in iraq- religious extremist, crusades- war for Jerusalem, WW2- persecution of jews. What god would let people die in to prove what their all tryng to prove, he is real, it really doesnt make sense. And popoman atheists are close minded? this coming from a religion which doesn't accept anyone that isn't the same as there way of thinking e.g., Other religions, homosexuals, people who are for sciences like stem cells etc. so dont accuse us about being close minded we let ourselfs choose for ourselfs what we will do with ourselves.
