This is a very well done game.
-To the people worried about "starting over"; You start back at the beginning when use the wings but you keep artifacts and the little gems. Just think of it as the game really having 500 floors instead of 100. Also your stats drop due to losing items, but remember you keep gems and artifacts. It is actually quite well balanced.
-To the people complaining about spell usage. As I would also prefer a hotkey, the spell casting is not that difficult with timing. Simply grab the spell you want to use and drag it to the enemy. While holding the spell move into the enemy and release the spell. All though I can see where this gets difficult casting multiple spells in one enemy battle.
Keep this info alive, I feel it could be valuable to some players that are confused ;)

Any tips for flyer units? I cannot seem to survive a wave of them no matter my strategy.

I don't know if its a bug or a feature. But while using the Warrior, I can make my hit rate higher by moving my character than standing still. So i just keep tapping w,a,s,d while striking.
