Bourre or Boo Ray, the hot and spicy Cajun card game — the favourite of NBA Players, hunters in the Bayou, and off-shore oil platform workers in the Gulf — is an odd mix of Spades and Draw Poker, with its own peculiar set of rules as to ante-ing up, draw and pass, playing to win — meaning if you have A,K,Q of Trumps, that’s known as ‘cinch’, and you must play the highest trump, namely the Ace. All in all, it’s the card game of Louisiana, and of French-Canadians.
This has to be one of my fave card games; that and Tonk, the jazzman’s version of Gin Rummy!
