Amazing game, definitely a 5/5. There's actually a lot of strategy required to beat both normal monsters and bosses (obviously not on "easy"), the quests are fun and the treasure hunt makes you wanna explore the whole world! Final boss was much harder than the dragon for me, mainly because of all the defence I had to put up (death,dark,doom,fire) but there's a lot of replayability even after the first run...currently played 16 hours;13h on my first run and some 3h on the second one, which I spent grinding to even higher levels :D Keep up the good work!
The game needs a rough ten minutes to get used to...once you do, it's actually very nice. Final highscore: 17.343.555, fell on a red gate wall 3x while traveling at over 70 km/h...oh well, at least I feel like I've conquered the game now^^
About Guardian of Mana: it's a good skill but has the terrible drawback of lowering your energy by a LOT when it expires. If you got trouble with a boss, only use GoM after using your other skills to lower your energy to ~100 (less if you got the energy upgrades) and only after your shield's gone. When you switch back to your casual ship, if you have energy packs, stocking on them to spam GoM is a good strategy to beat a very hard boss. Only works once though, as your packs are limited :)
At first this game was impossible - couldn't get past day 10 or so, once the ballistas came into play. So, for all the rookies out there: play the game a few times to get the easy medals( kongregate, taunting, praying, robbery, perfect games, etc.) and then start a new game with a rogue. Skills are most important, so get lots of luck to stack on your "rogue", and decide if you want to use automatic weapons or not. If you go for auto, get burst; otherwise get power shot. I recommend rifles over small guns, because of increased accuracy and penetration power (a simple bowgun got me to day 38). If you score many criticals, your money will increase manyfold! Use it to buy a museum (if you got medals it's like having a title, i.e. +100 GP a day), a repairman for the first few levels, then some wall defence, then smith (in order to get a better weapon without wasting AP on the smithy) and as you pass day 20 start packing your sandbags. Hope this helps!
For Baal, fall back and get a titan out. March with just the titan; I had a my celestial angel get close and attack, Baal would just sit back and take it without retaliating. When my mana was ~400, I used succubi, elven snipers and any other ranged unit as well. When they attack, they take a step forward, so at 4 steps after reaching my angel, I activate rage/berserk/shield and recast when it's almost over. Then I retreat with everyone but the angel, baal stops attacking again. Damn this was a long fight!
For damage frenzy, just combine berserk and rage. Increased damage+crit ensures the quick death of everything that doesn't have lots of thousands of HP. IF that is the case, you can throw in a time stop or invincible and repeat, but the mana cost will be heavy...
I admit that I decided to play the game JUST for the Kongai challenge...and I'm glad I did! This is significantly better than epic war 3, which I found boring to no end, but I think that the difficulty bar is raised too much after stage 7...iunno maybe it's just me being a noob and everything, but I found myself grinding for upgrades 5 times a stage before even getting a shot at the next level. Still, a VERY good game, and when that comes from a guy who hated EW3, that's gotta something, no?^^ 5/5 for the massive improvement.
Game needs to place more importance to kidnapping and assassinations, you can totally ruin the world but for no reason at all, when you can simply nuke everyone.
Very nice game, but maybe the option to chat with your opponent should be considered...I had to wait for the timer to expire for 4 turns in a row, I assume someone was busy doing other stuff, calling breaks would be enough to tell me to get off my comp for a min or two instead of waiting...and waiting :P Still, great game, I'm hooked. Currently using Ambrosia/Phoebe/Rathbone, been winning lots with simple tactics :)
Getting an early skyscraper for funds was a great idea, but I eventually switched to moon base with repeater turrets and flamies. Amazing game, very funny and actually exciting! The ending was worth it all!!!
Certain kill: get a phaser and jump in the pit. Then phase out, the other guy falls in -> you actually get the kill :D @ trimarin, rope kills are hard because the bots are tough to get on the ropes, they stalk the ground for weapons at all times.
