the controls arent to blame for the spacebar response time. Most likely it's just that you're pressing space too late, since the game is in perspective you have to jump a bit before you reach the edge of the platform. Otherwise, it must be your keyboard or computer, because it works fine for most people.
i ran into a similar glitch as whatIgot did. I got an explode and then immediately after it said my current word was explode and i couldnt type without it registering as a miss, 3/5
