I’m sure that there are a lot of authors out there, published or not, who would want their pieces of magnificence etc to be recognised. Enough about that. Here I’ve compiled a collection of awards that you, oh mighty author, can join. An award is an award is an award, oui mon ami?

Dark/Fantasy Books: Australian Shadows Award:
“A shortlist of works, be they short story or novel length (including collections and/or anthologies). The shortlisted entries will be announced on this website in February of each year following judging.” You’ll get to take home a nifty figurine if you win, too!

Science Fiction: Aurealis Awards:
“To be eligible, works must have been written in English by an Australian citizen or permanent resident and first published in the calendar year under consideration.” There are numerous “divisions” in this award, so your sci-fi masterpiece should fit somewhere nice and snug.

Children’s Book: Children’s Book of the Year Awards:
“These annual awards are for books with an implied readership under the age of eighteen, and are presented in five categories.” One of the harder competitions to get in, I was told. With the likes of Madame Rodda (my favourite Australian children’s author) winning it, who would say that this aint tough comp? Once you win it though, that’s a big weight of a logo slapped on top of your novel.
