You know, you can get it for free.
It just takes many hours. I've personally decided to watch advertisements on Gambit (one of the sites where you can get gems). I've been doing it on and off for 4 hours, and I still need 40 before I can get Beta.
Whether you want to do it or not depends on how much you like this game. It's one of my personal favorites, which is why I'm making the commitment to get Beta without paying.
Although I am looking forward to chat, I'm much more interested in the usernames, so the beta members can't discriminate.
Really, I've met some people that deserved to be banned for how they've treated betas.
