Hey Justin, I'm SO glad you made another sequel, I'm still playing Rogue Fable II from time to time! Anyway, I wanted to point out a bug: while I was Sprinting, I spotted a trainer and stopped mid-sprint. I couldn't move or click on anything anymore. Fortunately Save&Quit still worked.
You've got to open your character screen first. When the character screen is open you can pick up and rearrange items (you can also rearrange abilities). Just put a weapon, usually a ranged weapon in the slot. Then you can right click to use it or Q on the keyboard to auto attack with it.
Yay, I finally beat the game with every character! I'm not going for the "speed runs", I prefer taking it slow.
I went through with the Storm Mage again and won again. Range 5 is fine!
Awesome achievement! I think even without consciously going for speed runs your time will just gradually improve. First time I beat DCSS took something like 11 hours and second time I won, though I wasn't even trying to play any faster, was only about 6-7.
Bug? I used my scroll of enchantment and tried to select my (regular) sword. Nothing happens, it won't accept my click. I ended up enchanting my axe instead.
Okay, played with the Barbarian five times now. I definitely need to find a good strategy for him, since I haven't gotten past level 5 yet.
A few comments: his rage doesn't seem to have much of an impact; so far it adds a point of damage, maybe two... for a very short time. I would definitely extend the time rage lasts. Even at double that time when you spend a talent point (and have 8 melee), that seems "okay". By the way, it's possible that you just kill a monster, and the rage counter goes from 5/5 to 4/5 immediately. How about your Maximum Rage would go up with your Melee percentage (like damage)?
Gonna give him one more try before I get back to work.
Right now I'm playing this game more than anything else. Finished the game with Warrior, Fire Mage and Storm Mage. It's a lot of fun figuring out the different tactics for each character, and I'm looking forward to trying out the new and improved Rogue. I appreciate the game being tweaked. And thanks for giving us a little extra elemental defense if we put some points into that element. Now when are you going to make an Ice Mage character?
Glad you enjoying it :) Yeah the little extra elemental defense is because I'm trying to encourage people to experiment with multiclassing and different builds so I want every skill to be useful to the primary class but also useful to other classes. I could imagine a situation where a warrior encounters the last level and say its fire and so chooses to dump his extra skill points into fire just to boost his fire resistance as high as possible for the final run for the goblet. LOL for the ice mage. Everyone is so anxious to see him. I feel like I killed an endangered animal when I removed him. He'l be added back in when I can figure out what do with him. Your guys comments comparing the different classes have all been great as its helping me sort of define what each classes playstyle, feel, and relative challenge is. I want each one to be different so I'll add him when I can sort of nail down a defined role for him.
Hm, I just went down the stairs, took a few steps. Something to the north exploded, but now I can't click on anything anymore (not the ground, nor my weapon or mushrooms). The only things I can click on are the C-button and E-button (last one says there are monsters nearby). Has anybody else had this problem?
Some hint: 1) You can level up! Press the "character" button at the bottom right, you start with one skill point. 2) Drink Health and Mana potions when you are at full health/magic for permanent bonus points 3) Invest in Stealth to sneak up to monsters. Melee is good too. 4) Learn how certain monsters move. Lots of warriors can't move diagonally - you can and can attack them with your spear a little at a time. Most archers/wizards will come to you if you hide behind a corner. When they appear, move diagonally towards them and hit them with your spear, then hide again. 5) Ice Arrow spell is a life saver 6) Save your Enchantment scrolls for really good items (like the armor that gives you regular armor and cold protection)
Great Hints! A few more off the top of my head.
1) Take your time when dealing with dangerous enemies. The game is turn based for a reason, you should be carefully considering each action you take rather than rapidly clicking.
2) You don't have to kill every monsters. Especially at later levels it might be better to sneak past or simply run away.
3) The two dungeon branches are strictly optional and will only give you more experience and loot. They are best ignored unless you have equipment that boosts your fire and cold resistance.
4) Look at your map for big empty unexplored places as they often contain secret rooms with good loot.
5) It might be best to hoard your skill points at the start until you see what kind of items your picking up a lot of. Related to this, you can't go into every game with your character build already decided, you have to adapt to what items the game is throwing your way.
Thanks for playing Lorin!
Armor reduces the amount of damage enemies deal. The max armor is 30 so 5 armor is going to reduce damage by 1/6. The damage is factored in when displaying their damage on the screen (the red text), but you can view their max damage in the encyclopedia in game. Magic, fire and cold resistance works the same way, so the optional fire and ice branches are quite challenging if you haven't found any resistance gear and not recommended.
Nope, there's an end. You eventually reach a sort of nexus with a few branches that can be explored. Continuing down the main branch will eventually lead to the end game on level 16. It gets pretty challenging, I've never managed to beat it myself yet BOO, but my friend did manage to finish it once YAY.
