This is a fresh take on the genre, for sure. Great concept, and a solid execution. I thought the difficulty was well balanced; if you were grinding, it's because you were overlooking something. Fine work, indeed!
Thanks a lot! I really wanted to make sure this game didn't come off as an idle game were you bruteforce your way with upgrades. The game is more like a puzzle where you need to think through the options you have available to you, and make sure you're farmed up enough before tackling a hard area. Like you said, you CAN grind but there are better ways. I'm really glad you pointed that out!
Had a few glitches getting the game underway initially. I'm running Google Chrome on a Mac. First time it was trying to run some kind of mission selection tutorial, but it froze up while loading the graphics. I had to reload the game. When I came back, it seemed to have bypassed that particular tutorial, and I was able to play. Since then, no major problems, and I played the game for about an hour, so I guess I must have enjoyed it. :)
There was a bit of a pause between the completion of the tutorial missions and the reward screen. Not a big deal, but it seemed too long.
The gameplay is interesting, but I think I would like a stronger narrative thread tying the missions together. It kind of feels like "And now go over there and hit that guy"--I know I'm freeing slaves and whatnot, but I feel like I'm randomly wandering about to do it.
Seems like a complete rebuild from the previous version. Clearly a lot of effort has gone into this. My one big beef with this version is the lack of ability to save progress--I would rate higher otherwise. 3/5
The awarding of experience points seems to have a bit of a bug. Mine, for instance, currently reads: 49,6.1
Also, after hiring the fire hero, the first plain mage that I place on the map immediately becomes a fire mage hero who can't level up.
Very similar to the Traveller IQ Challenge on facebook. It would be nice to have a bigger map with a little more detail--some of the countries are scarcely recognizable.
Using the posters to weave in the lateral thinking is a nice touch. The puzzles had a nice level of difficulty--once I 'understood' each puzzle, it yielded easily...
Finally a TD that doesn't just hand you the win!! I've only played it a few times, but the fact that I'm still on the 7th wave tells me I'll be back for more...
The 'necromancers hired' element of the Life, Death, and Honor badge doesn't seem to be working out for me. I've won one map with two necros and another with seven, and it still doesn't seem to register the accomplishment. I love the game, though--this is a great twist for TD lovers! 5/5.
The special "sacred vestments" armour for the cleric seems a little underpowered considering they can wear breatplate at 4-5 times the protection. Just a thought...
