nevermind, figured out where the executable version saves things: %appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\
just search that folder for one of the files, or in my case follow the only subdirectory tree, and you should find the saves
I spent about half an hour this morning trying to recapture some old memories using the downloadable the author provided on the game's forum. It works like a charm, except for the part where I'm having trouble figuring out where the game files are stored in order to back them up. Anyone have a clue where flash player 9 (which is apparently responsible for running the executable version) throws its local storage stuff?
@Chowderfanultra really? Then explain how I was able to pin it down and win just now? I think of only two possibilities: you're either wrong, or they updated the game to make it winnable.
hankfan22 No one said it was stop existing completely, but the general idea is that it will no longer be receiving updates and if you attempt to update flash it will just uninstall itself instead. Much as I hate to say it, flash is, at least on its own, a dying technology. The only way to move forward with it is projects like ruffle-rs/ruffle, which basically replace flash with an emulator. I suggest everyone that has fond memories of this site like I do go support such continuity projects (if it helps, ruffle happens to be codeveloped by one of Minecraft's lead devs, Dinnerbone, so all it really needs is for them to know how important it is to us)
damn, the nostalgia is real. just seeing the title logo for Playcrafters (pretty much the only surviving element of this game) makes me miss 'em. Playcrafters closed, sold out to PopCap, and then Electronic fArts bought that and PC got forgotten in the shuffle, an old forgotten idea of something that could've been so much more. That's okay though. PC inspired me, and so help me God, I will not let their 'death' be in vain.
Also, I'll say this now: I really don't care what you all think of this comment (and won't be bothered by the like/dislike ratio). I'm just throwing it out there. Do with it what you will.
Oh, by the way, I lost my saved file trying to back up my saved file, which is kind of why I'm PO'd about the lack of a native backup function. If you would like to make it up to me, at least get me a refund code to unlock certain features that I know I had access to, such as the garden (which had at least 6 plots), the button pusher (which had at least one grandpa), the card game (no idea how much progress I had on it), and the gem-trading-thing
Have you ever considered, oh, I don't know, implementing a way to backup the save file without digging into the save files of the browser? It kinda seems like it would be more intuitive.
@smalljesse heheh I did that intentionally. just run into the wall on the right and loop so the dummy, when replaying your ACTIONS, doesn't stop when he gets back to the blue box. technically he could still finish but he would have to think for himself a little. anyway, Kongregate is the wrong place to go into depth on things like this. I'm just gonna play the rest of the game now.
"your deck was successfully saved :-)" lies! sort of. If it was saved, why can't I select it? the only way I same to be able to change my deck (at least in multiplayer) is to create a new deck and click "save and select". What gives? Single player seems to be fine, fortunately. That makes replaying campaign mode a little easier.
"We are focusing our resources on Backyard Monsters: Unleashed" well that's nice considering I don't have an iOS device to play it on.
That's okay. There's plenty of better places to spend my money.
saying "press + so everyone can see" makes (and should make) you an automatic (-) IMHO. if people want to rate it up, they will. if they don't, they won't. if they press (-), either you deserved it or they're trolling (which isnt rare around here but still...).
i agree with the idea that the music needs to be longer and less *ZZZ* and perhaps with a mute button. it also seems to lack much of a difficulty graduation. then again i couldnt get very far so im not sure. i think every time you jump over a raised obstacle, there should be a penalty (or else style points should be given for handling obstacles right... same diff when theres only 2 obstacles and 2 ways to clear them...). one thing i would experiment with would be maybe have raised platforms that you can land on and have less obstacles to deal with. this is a decent game considering the simplicity of the design. 3.5 (ik theres no rating like that but it means ill rate it 4/5 since the average is below 3. if it had above 4 i would rate it 3/5)
OOPS SOMETHING BROKE! *reloads and plays some more* OOPS SOMETHING BROKE! *reloads again and plays some more...* OOPS SOMETHING BROKE!....... i suppose maybe it doesnt like my laptop wifi connection or something... BUT COME ON!!!
