Finally won one! Enchanter turned out to be pretty great--I took Swiftness as soon as I was able, and just left it on all the time, putting up with the reduced max mana. The increased mobility is great for all sorts of things (if you haven't tried it, you should have an idea of how good it is by how annoying it is when enemies have it). Charm was also nice in the lower levels, and I like the little extra feature where if you're next to a charmed creature and you click on them, you switch places. Thought of jumping down one of the pits in level 16 just to see what was down there, but... having gotten that far, I didn't want to (probably?) throw it away. But I do wonder what happens....

Someone was wondering how to deal with crystal golems, so here are a few ways: 1)damage from environmental stuff--spikes, fire pots, etc.--doesn't get reflected back at you, 2)melee doesn't seem to be reflected, and they're slow, so you should be able to use a spear and run away, maneuvering them onto unstable ground for maximum effect, 3)it seems like it doesn't get reflected if they're in the aoe but you're not targeting them directly? I tried targeting a fire pot a crystal golem was right next to with my Greater Staff of Storms, and the splash damage didn't get reflected back, 4)again, they're slow, so you can lead them upstairs and then leave them behind (preferably several squares away from the stairs themselves in case you want to do this multiple times), 5)have someone else do it (summoned skeletons, charm/confusion spells).

I like the new thing of close enemies following you up the stairs, though. It does remove the old strategies of using the stairs to completely escape, and of going up the stairs and then back down so they'll forget about you and you can sneak attack you again... but it introduces a new strategy, of using the stairs to separate enemies and take them on one at a time. And I'm really enjoying the ranger's strafe thing.

Seems like the damage is wonky. I've got this +1 Staff of Poison that says it does 11 [17] damage... but when I actually tried it (on a goblin archer, first), it actually only does 2 damage each time.

Developer response from Justin_wang123

I've been looking into changing how that works. Its using the standard poison mechanic right now (same as when player is poisoned). So 17 damage would be the total amount of poison which then ticks across several turns. Trouble is, its balanced more from the perspective of player being poisoned and giving him a chance to heal so it does very little per turn, which is annoying when YOU are using something like the poison staff.

Hmmm... is it still supposed to be the case that there's always a merchant on the fifth floor? The first time I made it down to the fifth floor, there was a merchant and almost no enemies (just a little swarm of ants). The second time, that floor again had very few enemies, but no merchant (and I explored the entire floor--it even said "exploration complete" when I clicked the E).

Really cute! Found the controls (and occasionally the hitboxes...) a little frustrating, though, and I wish walking were also an option. Or letting go of the webbing and falling. What it took me some time to realize: you click and drag to set the *direction* you're shooting web, not the location, so the best way to control it is to click ON the spider, then drag to the intended destination.

Wish you could recruit the gambler (and let him keep his cat!) instead of him just leaving. I mean, what's he going to do out there with no food? Would he literally rather die than stay in our awesome fortress? Heck, I'd even let him set up a mini casino! Or tend bar or something. I also wish "unused" weapons could add to the defense if you have idle/guarding survivors--obviously if you have a stockpile you're going to use it. And the housing situation feels weird overall. Not just the "only two people can live in an apartment building/motel" bit, but the way people are willing to live in zombie-infested malls, churches, farms, etc., but once they're inside our fort, they're suddenly uninhabitable.

Okay, I don't know how, but resizing the window and then maximizing it again fixed the issue. Very weird.

Correction: it seems to have trouble accepting ANY keyboard input--it won't pause, either. Weird, because it should have focus when I try.

Hmmm, the instructions say you can shift+click instead of clicking and dragging to dismantle items, but there's only been one time that I've been to the forge and that worked (it did work for every item that time). The rest of the time, shift+click just acts like clicking, for some reason.

I just wish the game didn't have that thing about not letting you make strands too close together--too densely. I try to lay a new strand to reinforce the web and it just replaces an old one, or doesn't do anything.

Oh! "How long was I asleep" was the magic phrase. I saw AziDahaka commenting that they couldn't ask the AI to come with them, but "could you come with me" (and "can we fix the ship" and "can we call for help" if I remember my phrasing right) do have sensible responses, don't know if that's new but I like it. Asking "where are the other survivors" also gets you more information. ...I also appreciate that "I am going to die anyway" is accepted as a response to (although it doesn't accept "I'm" instead of "I am", oops).

5/5 because the story and writing are really good. However I was a bit stuck at first since I didn't think to ask to turn on the lights and didn't notice the letters AGS, and asked about food but didn't specifically say I was hungry to get the box... I thought I WAS in a bunker but had been woken up early for some reason. Things I tried to ask, but the AI didn't understand: when/how long ago was the war [to try to judge if the radiation would really still be high--if it was 100 years later then maybe the AI made a mistake and it was safe to go out. I noticed when I asked when the radiation would be low enough to go outside he said he didn't have enough data], why was I woken up, why am I alive, are you hiding something from me. After being offered the riddle game--"Entertain you?". After being presented with the choice--who would rescue me [I think I tried that a couple of different ways--3.7% seems high in the circumstances, who's even close enough?].

@cdamm The sound is fine for me--sure you didn't click the mute button? It's in the lower right corner on the main screen, and there are two above the inventory area during play.

On my last through playthroughs I've noticed an odd bug--that enemies who normally can't move diagonally, CAN move diagonally if they haven't noticed you yet. I've seen it happen with orc warriors, and I think ogres.

I enjoy the random nature of the loot in general, because I love multiclassing, buuuut I'm not loving it when it comes to keys. I just played through a game where there were four locked gates (two on one level!), and I found zero keys (despite killing everything and picking up all the loot I could reach). I did use a couple of Blink scrolls to bypass one gate and get in anyway. On some previous playthroughs I've accumulated keys without finding any gates. I wish there were an increased chance of enemies dropping keys as loot for levels with gates, or something. Or maybe if "key" were an option for the Well of Wishing/Scroll of Acquirement.

I wish the descriptions for the infernal sword and storm chopper made it clear they don't do "physical" damage and therefore the sneak attack skill doesn't work with them. Speaking of criticals, I wish there were something that explained how critical damage and sneak attacks worked; it seems inconsistent. Like, an enemy's on unstable terrain, and I normally do 5 damage, so I crit for 10 damage. So criticals just do double damage? And when I sneak attack, it does 14 damage, adding on 35% for my 7 stealth. But wait, a little earlier I did a sneak attack for 28 damage! So they occasionally do quadruple instead of double? And occasionally I get a free critical, but I can't tell what the % chance of that is or whether it's the same for all weapons. It's a little opaque. I also wish it were clearer how the sneak skill interacted with spot chance %, instead of the help text just saying that sneak "decreases the chance enemies will spot you".

Had a weird bug where I couldn't use the mouse to interact by just left-clicking: I had to left click on the interactable thing, then right-click, then left-click on the option I wanted.
